Editbot Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 5, 2026

This policy explains what Cover Letter Copilot, LLC ("Editbot", "we", "us") collects when you use the Editbot app (for Mac and Windows), its editing skills, geteditbot.com and the Editbot subscription, and what we do with it. We are responsible for (the "controller" of) this data. Contact: hello@geteditbot.com.

The short version

Diagnostics when an edit fails

While Editbot is in early testing, it sends us what we need to find and fix problems. When an edit fails: the video you added, Editbot's working copy of it, the transcript, the edit's files and Editbot's logs. When a final video finishes: that finished video, the preview pictures, its checks and timings and the end of its logs. When a preview finishes: the preview pictures, its checks and timings and the end of its logs. Only the Editbot team sees them, and we delete them after 30 days. To stop it, open the ⋯ menu and turn off Send diagnostics when an edit fails.

The choice is saved for your account, so it holds on every computer you sign in on. Once you turn it off, nothing more is sent, and anything still on its way is deleted. The app shows you a notice about this once before it sends anything.

What we collect

whatwhywhere it comes from
Account: email, name, Google account id, profile-photo linkto sign you in, show who's signed in, send receipts and noticesGoogle sign-in
Computers: a device id we issue, your computer's name (e.g. "Ben's MacBook Pro"), when it was added and last usedto let you use up to 2 computers and sign one outthe app, when you sign in and each time it checks your subscription
Subscription: Stripe customer id, plan, status, paid-until date, and when you agreed to the Terms at checkoutto know whether Editbot may edit, and to show what you agreed toStripe. We never see or store your card number
Problem reportsto fix a problem you reportedonly when you press Report a problem, after the app shows you the whole report: app, Electron, macOS, Claude and editing-skills versions and Claude profile name, chip type, free disk space, account status, your email masked (b…@gmail.com), your Editbot videos folder path (your user name replaced by ~) and the last lines of Editbot's own logs (video names replaced by a short code). We link it to your account and computer. Never video, transcripts or sign-in tokens
Crash reportsto fix crashes and failed Claude sign-insthe app, automatically unless you turn it off in About: the error, where in Editbot's code it happened (for a sign-in that went wrong: which Claude profile Editbot used, whether Claude says it's signed in and on which plan, and the words on Claude's screen that asked, never your Claude email), version numbers and Editbot's own last log lines, with your email masked, folder and video names hidden and sign-in tokens removed. We link it to your account (when signed in) and computer. Never video, transcripts or chats. At most 10 a day
Progress of your videosto see where editing gets stuck or fails, and to fix itthe app, automatically unless you turn it off in About (the same switch as crash reports). When a video is added, which editing step it reached (for example "cutting the take"), whether a preview or the final video finished or stopped, and the editing skills' own reason when one stopped (which check failed and where in the take, for example "phrase restarted at 9.80s"), the kind of error, the time, and the app and editing-skills versions. Each video is named by a short code, never by its name. Before anything leaves your computer, the words you said (anything the reason quoted), file names and folder paths, emails and sign-in tokens are taken out. We link it to your account and computer. Never video, transcripts, chats or files. At most 100 a day
A video you send to supportto see exactly what went wrong with that video, reproduce it and fix itonly when you choose Send this video to support (on a video that stopped, or in Report a problem) and press Send, after the app shows you what's sent, who sees it and how long we keep it. Every time, for one video. What's sent: that video's working copy made smaller (720 pixels on its short side, at most 200 MB), its edit (project.json, edit.json, plan.json), its editing state and the editing skills' logs for it, in one zip; in those files your user name in folder paths is replaced by ~ and sign-in tokens are removed. The words you say in the video are in it, because the video is. Never your other videos, your original file or any other file on your computer. We link it to your account and computer. Only Editbot support can open it (a private storage area; each download link lasts 5 minutes). At most 3 a day
Diagnostics when an edit fails or finishesto reproduce a failed edit and fix it; for a finished one, to see that the result looks rightthe app, automatically unless you turn it off (⋯ menu, Send diagnostics when an edit fails; saved for your account), while Editbot is in early testing, and only after the app has shown you a notice about it once. When a preview or a video fails: the video as you added it (your original file) and Editbot's working copy of it when that's under 500 MB, the transcript, the edit's files (edit.json, its segments, timings, checks and timeline), the editing state, the preview pictures and every log Editbot's editing skills wrote for that video (each up to 5 MB, the newest part). At most 2 GB: above that your original file stays on your computer. When a final video finishes: that finished video, the preview pictures, its checks and timings and the end of its logs. The finished video is sent whole, up to 2 GB, with its first frame as a picture. When a preview finishes: the preview pictures, its checks and timings and the last 200 lines of each log, at most 2 MB, never a video. A video we already hold from you isn't sent again. In the text files your user name in folder paths is replaced by ~ and sign-in tokens are removed; the words you say are in the transcript and the videos. We link it to your account and computer. Only the Editbot team can open it (a private storage area; each download link lasts 5 to 10 minutes). At most 10 failed and 40 finished edits a day
