Can Claude edit videos? Yes, with Editbot

On its own, Claude can't edit a video. It reads and writes text, so a chat window can explain an edit or write you a script, but it has no timeline and can't make a single frame. Give it the right tools on your computer and it can edit, and that's what Editbot does.

Editbot is a desktop app for Mac and Windows. You drag in a talking-head video you shot on your phone, mistakes included. Claude, on your own Claude plan, finds the restarts and long pauses, then plans captions, a graphic for each idea and music. You check the plan, press Render, and get back a finished vertical reel.

“Stop protecting your idea”

Editbot cut five restarts and the long pauses, then added a caption on every word, a graphic for each idea and music underneath.

Can Claude edit videos?

Yes, as long as it has editing tools to work with. Claude by itself only has words. In Editbot it gets a word-by-word transcript of your take, a set of rules for what a good talking-head edit looks like, and the tools to cut, caption and render. Claude makes the editing calls and the app does the heavy lifting.

The calls are the part people get stuck on. Plain silence removal can cut a gap, but it can't tell which of your three tries at a line was the good one. Claude reads the words, so it can. It hears that you started a sentence, stopped, and said it again better, and it keeps the better one.

What Claude does to your video

How do I use Claude to edit my videos?

  1. Film yourself on your phone. Keep going when you mess up a line, because Editbot cuts the mistakes.
  2. Drag the file into Editbot. Claude marks the cuts.
  3. Check the plan. You can see what Claude wants to cut and which captions, graphics and music it picked, and you can change any of them with a button.
  4. Press Render. When it's done you can still swap the music, change how loud it is or where it starts, and Editbot makes a new version.
  5. Save the finished video and post it.

Claude works in a panel beside the editor. You can watch it think or ignore it.

Do I need Claude Code?

No. You need a paid Claude plan, and Editbot handles the rest. The first time you open it, it installs its editing tools for you. On a Mac without Homebrew, it asks you to paste one command into Terminal first. You never type a prompt or open a terminal to edit a video.

People who already use Claude Code will recognise what's going on in the panel. Editbot installs Claude Code for you and runs it on your own Claude login.

Which Claude plan do I need?

Claude does the editing on your own paid Claude plan, so your plan sets how many videos you can make. These are our estimates from test edits of 30–60 second videos in October 2026:

Claude planPriceVideos a month
Pro$20/mo5–10 (about one every 5 hours)
Max 5x$100/mo30+
Max 20x$200/mo100+
Free—Won't work

Anthropic sets Claude's limits and can change them, and anything else you do with Claude counts toward them. On Pro, a long video may pause until your limit resets.

Editbot itself is $20 a month, and you can cancel any time.

Is Claude a good video editor?

For a single talking-head take, it's good at the work most people give up on: cutting the mistakes, captioning every word and adding something to look at. It isn't built for long YouTube videos, multicam shoots or colour grading. If you want a full editing workstation, look at Descript. If you only want silence removal, Gling is the closest tool.

Does my video leave my computer?

The transcript is made on your computer, and the cutting and rendering happen there too. Claude reads the transcript and the edit plan to make its decisions, through your own Claude account.

By default, if an edit fails or a final render finishes, Editbot sends that video and its edit files to our private storage so we can fix problems, and we delete them after 30 days. You can turn that off any time in the app's ⋯ menu.

Not really. You choose a video, check the plan and press Render. You'll want about 10 GB of free space for the editing tools and your videos.

Is Editbot made by Anthropic?

No. Editbot is made by Cover Letter Copilot, LLC and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic. Claude is a trademark of Anthropic, PBC.
